在約翰·羅爾斯1985年的文章“正義即公平：政治而非形而上學”中👋🏻，他將對正義的詮釋從認識論的方向轉為一個更實際和實用主義的政治方向🙏。主講人認為這一轉變是民主理論發展歷程中的一個基準點。這一轉變將合理性推向了非至善論的方向。隨著公共理性代替原初狀態成為羅爾斯理論發展中的核心概念之一，憲政成為了共識的基礎。講座以對實用主義轉變引發的三個合理性問題的簡短討論收尾🏋️♀️，即：非美國背景下的公共理性和憲政問題，非自由主義社會中的民主公民權問題，以及國際法的憲法化問題。
In “Justice as Fairness: Political not Metaphysical” (1985) John Rawls turned from epistemological justification to a more practical, pragmatic orientation toward the political. I argue that this is a benchmark in the development of democratic theory. This turn would result in a non-perfectionist concern with legitimacy. As public reason replaced the original position in Rawls’ development, constitutionalism became the basis for consensus. The lecture concludes with a brief analysis of three legitimacy problems emanating from the pragmatic turn: public reason and constitutionalism beyond it American context, the problem of democratic citizenship in non-liberal societies, and the constitutionalization of international law.

David Rasmussen，美國芝加哥大學博士，現任美國波士頓學院（Boston College）哲學系教授。他是著名學術期刊《哲學與社會批判》的創刊人及主編，同時擔任近期創刊的《美國哲學學會期刊》副主編。Rasmussen教授關於尤爾根·哈貝馬斯，保羅·利科，以及約翰·羅爾斯的多部學術著作和文章均在學術界內受到高度好評💂🏼。他現在正在完成一本關於約翰·羅爾斯後期哲學的學術著作。
David M. Rasmussen is a longtime professor of political philosophy at Boston College. He is the founder of the journal Philosophy and Social Criticism, associate editor of the new Journal of the American Philosophical Association, and the author and editor of numerous books and articles on Jurgen Habermas, Paul Ricoeur and John Rawls. He is currently finishing a book on the later work of John Rawls.
